User's Upgrade Instructions
No database changes were made in this release so backing up your cookbook files isn't absolutely necessary BUT... You should back up your cookbook files at regular intervals anyway and if you haven't done so in a while now is a VERY good time. If you are currently a registered AccuChef™ user, you can upgrade to version 6.6 in a couple different ways. Either email us (support@accuchef.com) for directions on how to download and install the version 6.6 upgrade (upgrades your existing 5 through 6.56 versions of AccuChef™) or click on the "Try" button at left to download and install the complete shareware version. If you're upgrading from version 5 through 6.56, the upgrade should retain your existing registration. If it says it's the trial version and contains a usage counter, email us with the name you originally registered under and we'll send you your registration information. Some things that you should consider prior to upgrading: VERSION 4.x and earlier users: Download and install the v6.6 shareware version in a different folder then your current version, then email us for your registration instructions. Version 4 and earlier cookbooks can't be automatically converted to the new database format. You can perform a manual conversion by starting up your v4 or earlier version and exporting all of your cookbooks to (a) file(s). Once v6.6 is installed (in a separate folder) you can create new cookbooks and import the v4 exported recipes. Version 5 through 6.11 users: The underlying database structure has changed to incorporate the new category fields (and some other stuff) so your existing cookbooks will have to be converted to the new format. There is a supplied conversion utility (CVTTO62.EXE) but you should BACKUP YOUR COOKBOOKS prior to converting them to the new format. If you really want to be safe, use Windows Explorer to make a copy of your existing AccuChef folder prior to running the upgrade. That way in case anything goes wrong (who knows) you've got your original to fall back on. The CVTTO62.EXE conversion program can't unzip AccuChef compressed cookbooks (RZP files) so you'll have to open them from AccuChef which will unzip them and then pass them to CVTTO62.EXE. When upgrading, the existing AccuChef.exe file will be renamed AccuOld.exe. The cookbook conversion process will first copy the existing cookbook to a file with the same name except it will have an "h" appended to it (I.E. BOOK1 gets copied to BOOK1H). If the conversion process fails for any reason, you can convert them manually by starting up AccuOld.exe and open the backup "h" file and export the recipes to a file. Once exported, start up AccuChef.exe, create a new cookbook and import the exported recipes. Please email us if you have any upgrade questions. We've done lots of testing on the conversion process but you never know what might happen (power failure right in the middle, hardware failure etc). If you don't have a current backup of your cookbook files (and you always should) be sure to back them up prior to upgrading just to be safe! |
